A warm welcome to our brothers and sisters of the Dominican Family from the five Continents where the Order of Preachers is present. We gladly begin the chronicle of the General Chapter 2007 to be held in Bogotá from July 18 to August 8. Bogotá, Capital, City of the Democratic Republic of Colombia is situated at 2,600 m closer to the stars.

A staff of Friars will be in charge of recording the most important moments of the Chapter. We have been given this mission and we hope to give timely, nice, and eloquent information to those who are following daily this great event for the Church and for the Order. We will try to find the image, the sentence, the character, the interview and the news of the day, in which we have built the life in prayer, study, and of course, the fraternal moments that identify us as Dominicans.

From the land of coffee, flowers, Shakira’s and Juanes’s music, Macondo and the landscape that make people feel “passion for Colombia”, from the Country consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for more tan 100 years, from Bogotá the Reading Capital of the World 2007.

Here in Santo Domingo we are giving the final touches for the General Chapter. They are Friars that run, make phone calls, confirm, register, fix, do the laundry, print, gather together, pray, sing, attend, laugh, in other words committed to the end. They have given the best themselves, so that everything is conducted in a dignified manner, since the last Chapter held in Bogotá was 40 years ago.

At ¡2.600 m closer to the stars! We are waiting for our brothers and sisters who will take part in this great event, since the FIFA authorized to play the qualifying rounds for the World Cup to be held in South Africa in 2010 in places below 3,000 m. Welcome again to this tropical land. The height is not important, what matters is the desire and the hope to achieve ¡Contemplari et contemplata aliis tradere!
